‘디자인은 보이지 않는다’는 이론에 입각한 디자인 접근방법 연구

디자인은 인간의 여러 가지 감각 중에서 무엇보다 시각을 통해 가장 먼저 인지된다. 이런 기본적인 현상을 되짚어보게하는, 시각적으로 볼 수 없다는 의미를 내포하는 ‘디자인은 보이지 않는다’는 이론이 있다. 디자인 영역에서 형태가 가지는 미학적인 개념은 매우 중요하게 간주된다. 하지만 ‘디자인은 보이지 않는다’는 이론은 디자인 개념설정 단계에서형태를 가장 우선시하지 않는다는 것을 의미하며, 디자이너가 갖추어야 할 다양한 디자인적 관점을 간접적으로 말하고 있다. 변화하는 현대사회를 이해하여 창의적인 디자인을 창출하기 위해서는 디자인 개념설정 단계에서 다각적인디자인 접근방법에 대한 이해와 시도가 필요하다. 본 연구의 목적은 ‘디자인은 보이지 않는다’는 이론을 주장한 루시우스 부르크하르트의 디자인의 불가시성 의미를 파악하고, ‘보이지 않는 디자인’을 인식하여 새로운 디자인 접근방법을 모색하는 것이다. 연구방법으로 루시우스 부르크하르트의 인물과 문헌분석, 디자이너들의 작품사례를 통한 사례분석을 사용하였다. 그 결과 부르크하르트의 디자인 이론, 즉 ‘보이지 않는 디자인’의 의미는 사회 조직적 제도와 시스템의 중요성, 디자인과 사회 및 인간의 상호작용 그리고 디자인의 반생산성을 내포하였다. 이 개념들을 적용하여 분석된‘보이지 않는 디자인’의 접근방법은 주변 환경과 소외층 사용자를 배려한 방법, 과잉 디자인의 문제점을 고려한 방법,인간의 인지능력을 활용한 관념적 시도방법, 라이프 스타일과 정보 분석을 통한 사물을 대체하는 시스템 디자인을 적용하는 방법으로 제시되었다. 본 연구의 의의는 디자이너들이 디자인의 의미를 고찰하는 계기를 제공할 것이며, 새로운 디자인 트렌드와 의미 있는 디자인을 창출할 수 있는 발전적인 기회를 가지는 것에 있다.
Abstract
Out of all the human senses, design is first perceived through sight. However, there is the theorythat ‘Design is invisible’ which breaks fundamental phenomenon and contains negation of visualavailability. In the field of design, the tangible aesthetic notion is regarded as a very importantelement. Taking this into consideration, the theory ‘Design is invisible’ signifies that the form doesnot have precedence over the conception of design and means indirectly the various standpoints interm of design, which should have as designer. To develop a creative design with an understandingof the changing modern society, requires the enlightenment and endeavors of various designmethods at the design concept formulation phase. The purpose of this study is to review themeaning of invisibility as Burckhardt’s theory ‘Design is invisible’ puts it, and to understand‘invisible design’ in terms of finding new design methods. For this study, an analysis of the literatureconcerning Burckhardt’s work was completed, and case studies of designers have been applied. Thetheory of Burckhardt, ‘invisible design’ means, which are the importance of social organizedinstitution and system, the interaction among design, society and human, the contra productivity. The result shows the design approach methods for ‘invisible design’, which are the consideration ofliving environment or neglected people, consideration of overcapacity in the design field, notionaltry using human’s cognitive faculty, application of system which could be replaced the objectaccording to lifestyle and information. The significance of this study is to show that designersconsider the meaning of design deeply and will also give evolutive opportunity to create new designtrends and designs that are significant.
