보유특허 기반의 기술기회탐색을 위한 특허추천방법: 3D 프린팅 산업을 중심으로

초록
글로벌 기술경쟁으로 기술과 제품의 수명주기가 짧아짐에 따라, 잠재적인 기술기회를 발굴하고 이를 선점하는 것은 기업의 지속가능한 성장의 동력으로 작용한다. 이와 관련하여 특허 정보를 활용한 기술기회 발굴에 대한 연구가 진행되어왔으나, 특허분석방법 중 가장 빈번하게 사용되며 효과적인 특허인용 정보를 활용한 출원인 관점의 접근은 미흡한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구는 특허의 인용정보를협업 필터링에 적용하여 출원인이 보유한 특허로부터 기술기회로 작용할 수 있는잠재적 특허를 추천하는 방법을 제시한다. 또한, 추천지수 및 산업경쟁수준을 기반으로 한 특허 추천 포트폴리오 맵을 통해 시장의 경쟁정도는 낮으나 출원인의보유특허와의 기술적 연관관계가 높은 특허를 파악함으로써, 출원인이 후속개발가능한 기술기회를 탐색 하도록 지원한다. 본 연구에서는 3D 프린팅에 관련된 특허를 활용한 사례를 소개할 것이다. 본 연구의 방법은 기업들이 새로운 시장에 진출하기 위한 기술기회탐색 프로세스에 통합될 수 있으며, 또한 연구개발 의사결정자들의 기술기획에 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
Under the competitive technological environment where the lifecycles for products and technologies shorten, discovering andpreoccupying potential technology opportunities help firms secure thecompetitiveness and develop sustainably. Prior studies using patentcitations have focused on identifying and forecasting technologicaltrends, whereas they have hardly addressed how to identify technologyopportunities using firms own patents. Therefore, this study proposes acollaborative filtering-based approach to recommend patents that act asinput of follow-up technology opportunities that a target firm candevelop. The approach is illustrated using patents of 3D printingtechnology and their citation information. We expect that the proposedapproach contributes to identifying the technology opportunitiesfavorable to a target firm’s existing technological capability as well asless competitive in the firm’s technology field. Further, it will beincorporated into the processes to explore and participate in newtechnology markets.
