여유자원에 대한 R&D 역량의 조절효과가 국제화에 미치는 영향 -그랜저 인과관계 검정을 중심으로-
A Study on R&D Capabilities Relative to Organizational Slack and Firm Internationalization based on Granger Causality Test

본 연구는 산업별로 R&D 역량과 국제화간의 관련성이 다를 것이라고 보고 산업에 따라 R&D 역량이 커질수록 여유자원과 국제화 사이의 양(+)의 관계가 더욱 강화될 것인가를 검증하는 것에 연구의 초점을 두었다. 분석을 위하여 2000년부터 2013년 기간동안 유가증권시장에 상장된 336개 기업으로 구성된 14년간의 3586개의 관측치를 사용하였다. 산업별로 그랜저 인과관계 검정(granger causality test)을 실시한 결과, R&D 역량에서 국제화로 인과관계를 갖는 산업, 국제화에서 R&D 역량으로 인과관계를 갖는 산업, R&D 역량과 국제화간 상호인과관계를 갖는 산업 및 인과관계가 없는 산업을 제시하였다. 이 연구결과를 토대로 R&D 역량이 국제화에 인과관계가 나타난 집단과 그렇지 않은 집단을 분류하여 각각 합동(pooled) OLS, 고정효과모형(fixed effect model) 및 임의효과모형(random effect model)을 이용하여 연구가설에 대한 분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과, 산업에 따라 R&D 역량은 여유자원과 국제화 사이의 조절효과가 다르게 나타났다. R&D역량에서 국제화로의 인과관계가 나타난 산업집단은 그렇지 않은 산업집단보다 R&D 역량이 커질수록 여유자원과 국제화 사이의 양(+)의 관계가 강화되는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 R&D 역량에서 국제화로의 인과관계가 나타나지 않은 산업집단은 R&D 역량이 커질수록 여유자원과 국제화 사이의 양(+)의 관계가 강화되는 것으로 나타나지 않았다. 이러한 결과는 R&D 역량이 여유자원과 국제화에 미치는 영향을 산업별로 구체적으로 분석하였을 때, R&D 역량이 여유자원과 국제화와의 관련성이 달라질 수 있다는 증거가 될 수 있는 것으로 보인다. 본 연구의 함의점으로 R&D 역량이 국제화에 영향을 미칠 것이라는 선험적 가정하에 선행연구가 이루어졌으나, 그랜저 인과관계 검정을 토대로 선행연구의 방향과는 다르게 국제화 가능성이 높은 기업이 R&D 역량이 높은가를 알아봄으로써 R&D 역량에 대한 연구의 폭을 넓힐 수 있었다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of slack resources on internationalization of listed manufacturing firms based on Granger Causality Test. And then we explore moderating effect of R&D capabilities between slack resources and internationalization of firms. We analysed cross-sectional data of 336 listed companies from 2000 to 2013 using the fixed effects estimation. The test are conducted in two steps. first, distributed lag Granger causality tests are run for individual industries to determine or vice versa. Depending on whether or not an sample industry exhibits significant causality relationships from R&D capabilities to Internationalization, two separate subsample are constructed: one characterized by significant causality relationship and the other without such relationship. Between the two industry group, we explore moderating effect of R&D capabilities between slack resources and internationalization of firms. Empirical results showed that in causality group this study found that R&D capabilities have a significant positive moderating effect in the pathway between slack resources and internationalization. Investment in R&D capabilities for global competitiveness might increase the slack resources of corporate. R&D capabilities have strong incentives to build and manage a buffer stock of slack to internationalization. These results suggest that R&D capabilities with slack resources is very important for understanding cash management.
