초록

In Korea, the ratio of youth being employed for part-time jobs were lower than other countries, but as drop-out rate and youth unemployment rate increases, the numbers of young people getting part-time jobs are increasing. Most of the youths face their first work experience through part-time jobs. Therefore basic labor rights and human rights protection in the part-time labor market hold significant values. However, despite the increasing awareness of youths’ part-time employment and various movements demanding institutional improvements in such workplaces, the inadequate working environment and unjust treatment of workers have not been improved according to various studies. It is assumed that the lack of improvement is in correlation with before mentioned poor employment rate of the youth. This study shows not only that the violation rate of labor regulations towards part-time job holders are very high and also 7 out of 10 employees have experienced various types of human right violations. Although it is considered that large-scale franchises are providing generally better working environment, it is revealed that violations of labor regulations and human rights are commonly taking place. Because it is difficult for young part-time job holders to act against the adult employers in case of such violations themselves, there need to be various measures to prevent from the violations to take place. In addition, the government has to proactively and systematically establish regulations that provides protection to the youth with part-time jobs so their employment experience have positive effects on future employment and life.
