외국인 범죄 뉴스 접촉이 수용자의 위험지각에 미치는 영향

Fear of crime by foreigners is emerging as one of the factors militating against the public perception of multiculturalism. This paper aims to examine how both personal-level and media-related factors influence the audience's fear of crime by foreigners. Also, the research interests include how especially experience of contact with foreigners, among personal-level factors, mediates the relation between media-related factors and perceived risk. Based on a conceptual distinction between perceived risks on social and personal levels, this research has attempted to elaborate the influence of media on the fear of crime. As a result, among personal-level variables, only conversation on foreign crime proved to be statistically significant (RQ 1). Also, media exposure and interpersonal communication were highly influential on the perceived risk of foreign crimes. In particular, the impact of exposure to 'discursive media' among the audience was more conspicuous on their perceived risk on a social level(RQ 2). The moderating effect of experience of contact with foreigners was insignificant. In other words, experience of contact with foreigners hardly increases or diminishes the influence of media exposure and interpersonal communication on the perceived risk(RQ 3). Based on the findings, both theoretical and policy-related implications were discussed.
