교육연극을 활용한 법교육 사례연구 - 캐나다 BC주 Justice Theatre를 중심으로 -

초록
교육연극은 학생들에게 새로운 교육경험을 제공하는 동시에 교사의 수업부담을 경감시키는 효과적 법교육 교수학습방법으로 큰 가능성을 가지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 교육연극에 모의재판을 접목한 법교육 프로그램인 캐나다 BC주의 Justice Theatre 사례에 대한 분석을 통해 교육연극을 활용한 법교육 모델의 효과와 개선점을 확인하였다. Justice Theatre는 전문연극인들로 구성된 극단이 대본을 만들고 연극을 한 후, 이에 대해 학생들이 토론을 벌이는 형태로 교육연극 중 TIE 유형에 해당한다. Justice Theatre는 생동감있는 연기로 흥미유발과 몰입 효과가 크고, 상호작용성이 높으며, 수시로 새로운 이슈들에 대응한 교육자료의 개발이 용이하다는 장점을 가지고 있다. 반면 직접 토론에 참여할 수 있는 학생들의 숫자가 제한적이고 사실관계의 확인과 실정법의 적용에만 얽매이는 법정게임의 양상으로 흐를 수 있다는 한계가 있다. 이를 극복하기 위해 모둠별 토론, 워크시트의 활용, 쟁점을 중심으로 한 대본의 구성 등이 필요하다. 또한 Justice Theatre 프로그램을 가능하게 했던 법교육 관련 시민단체와 민간 네트워크의 역할에도 주목할 필요가 있다.
Abstract
Educational Drama can be used as a effective tool for Law-Related Education which provide a new educational experience to students along as reducing the burden of teachers. This study verified the effects and limits of Law-Related Education teaching and learning method using Educational Drama by analysing the case of Justice Theatre program of BC state, Canada. Justice Theatre takes the form of TIE in Educational Drama, which starts with the drama performed by professional actor-teacher and followed by discussion among students. Justice Theatre has many strong points that it can make students interested and concentrated, highly interactive, and easily develope the new materials along with the current social issues. Besides, the number of participation for jurys are limited and tends to be changed for mere 'Court Game' just chasing for the facts and laws. To overcome these weaknesses, group discussion, work-sheet can be added. Most of all, the scripts and whole program should be oriented for civic education by focused on issue deliberation. Also, the importance of the role of Law-Related Education NGO and volunteer network should be noted, which established the basic foundation of Justice Theatre program.
