초록
유기적인 곡면 형태를 다루는데 있어 워낙 독보적인 까닭에 ‘캡틴 오거닉’이라고도 불리는 로스 러브그로브는 자신의 디자인 컨셉을 DNA: 디자인(Design), 자연(Nature), 예술(Art)이라고 자신있게 말하며 이세 가지 요소를 자신의 세계에 대한 표현이라고 강조하고 있다. 그는 자연에서 오는 유기적 형태를 연구하며, 자연의 논리와 아름다움에서 영감을 받으며, 한편으로는 공과대학에서 연구한 기술적인 부분을 디자인에 접목한다. 그는 끊임없이 첨단기술을 연구하며, 그가 추구하는 유기적인 형태를 디자인에 결합하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 유기적 형태를 어떻게 이해해야하며, 러브그로브의 유기적 디자인의 독특한 특징은무엇인가를 밝혀 보는 데 있다. 유기적 형태는 어느한 시대에 머물지 않고 인류역사상 계속 추구되어 왔다. 따라서 연구방법은 여러 문헌에 기술되어 있는 유기적 형태를 4가지 유형으로 분류하였고, 이를 바탕으로 러브그로브의 오거닉 디자인 특징들을 유추해 보고자 하였다. 연구결과 러브그로브의 디자인은 다음과같은 특징을 보여주고 있다. 그는 비정형적인 자연스러움, 불규칙적인 질서, 새로운 기술과의 접목을 통하여 유기적 형태를 끊임없이 시도하고 있다.
Abstract
Loss Loveglove is referred to as 'Captain Organic' because he is very unique in dealing with an organic form. He has its own design concept; DNA(design, nature, art) that he confidently emphasizes the expression of his world. He studied organic forms that come from nature, inspired from the logic and beauty of nature, studied the technical part in Institute of Technology on the other hand. We can see that he constantly researches the cutting-edge technology, combines organic form to designs that he pursue. Purposes of this research are how do we understand the organic form and are revealing something particular features of Loveglove’s Organic Design. In this study, Organic form has been seeking not to dwell on any one era in the history of mankind. So I classified organic forms presented in the literature into four types. Based on this, I tried to classify the characteristics of Ross Lovegrove’s organic design. As a result, the designs of Ross Lovegrove show the following features. He is constantly trying to organic forms through naturalness in an atypical form, irregular order, incorporation with new technologies.
