The statistics of Korean film industry from 2005 to 2014 shows many bright aspects of industrial growth. The causes of Korean film industry’s current success can be attributed to three factors. They are, the expansion of freedom of expression, stubbornly maintained screen quota, and several schemes to induce investors and strong copyright system.. The Korean Constitutional Court has held that any direct or indirect intervention of executive power prior to the opening of a film is unconstitutional censorship. As a result, film makers are able to produce films without the restriction of the material. Korean government has maintained screen quota against harsh opposition from the U.S. at the expense of other sectors of national economy. Korean Film industry could attain sound infrastructure behind the shield of the screen quota, it could cope with the drastic reduction of screen quota by KORUS FTA. Korean government introduced several schemes to stimulate investment. Those schemes include film investment partnership, special SPC for culture industry and completion bond. Korea has swiftly revised Copyright Act to efficiently conform to global standard. The synergy of those factors have resulted in the renaissance of Korean film industry. However, the film industry still has internal unfair aspects. To deal with these problems, the members in the industry are devising diverse model form contracts, and launched Practices Establishment Center under the Korean Film Council.
