A Case Study on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of Korean Firms in China: An Internal Stakeholder Approach to CSR

Recently, internal stakeholders have placed much importance on human rights and labor relative to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Thus, the objective of this study was to analyze Global CSR standards and activities by focusing on the internal stakeholders of Korean firms in China. Through a case study, this paper tried to analyze theoretical perspectives of CSR literature in order to draw out management implications for global CSR strategies of Korean firms. Moreover, in this paper, we review the Global CSR standards of international organizations, such as the UN Global Compact and ILO Better-Work program. Results and implications of this study indicate that labor standards and human rights or norms of the international community have been strengthened. Also, labor-related risks of Korean firms in China are constantly increasing in terms of minimum wage requirements and the safety accidents that have been occurring. Therefore, CSR activities are very important for labor management, such as job competency, labor productivity, organizational commitment and job satisfaction. In addition, assistance from the government and relevant support organizations are needed for the CSR activities of small and medium- sized companies to thrive in China.
