법학전문대학원 국제법 교수학습방법에 관한 소고

In 2009, the new Korean law school system was launched for the purpose of meeting various challenges at this international era. In that context, the importance of “(public) international law” seemed to be stressed by all the law schools. In 2016, after seven years of its inception, the reality surrounding international law education at the law school system is in a word disastrous. It may mainly be due to structural problems of the unique and hybrid Korean law school system, which mixed the original U.S. professional graduate school system with the Korean traditional civil service examination system. If the structural problems cannot be cured in the near future, in spite of the prompt necessity and importance of the international law knowledge and education especially for Korea, some special measures need to be taken for the transitional period. This article suggests, for that purpose, making a ‘basic’ international law course a ‘de facto required’ course, making ‘specialised’ international law courses ‘student-tailored friendly’ courses, making ‘various’ international law courses ‘job-linked practical’ courses, and additionally training some ‘young lawyers or candidates’ towards a more ‘academic track’.
