청소년 자원봉사활동의 지속성과 지속의사가 청소년 시민의식에 미치는 영향연구와 개선점

The significance of this study is to analyze the effects of students' volunteer service on their public consciousness by considering their persistence. This research is based on the survey of the first, second, and third-year students of Kwang Myoung High School in Busan, South Korea in May 2009. Its primary analysis is as follows. First, the more the students' experience of participating in volunteer works, the better their understanding and preservation of basic democratic procedure and their respecting of human dignity and social participation. Second, their willingness to continue volunteer activity also positively affects their understanding of democratic principles as a citizen and their supporting of human dignity, social participation and reasonable decisions. The analysis of the factors for students' motivation and their reasons to continue their volunteer activity shows that their willingness for their volunteer service have positive effects on forming their identity as a democratic citizen. Therefore, more consideration and care are needed to help teenage students form their identity as a citizen in a democratic society. Conclusively, youth volunteer service can be a basis for a meaningful activity to build up teenagers' democratic civil awareness as a member of the society. It is needless to say that the development of a democratic country depends on the nurturing of a good citizen. This requires the discussion for preparing the effective and various programs for volunteer activities, which used to be regarded as a simply formal activity.
