고용보험가입 문화예술직 근로자의 직업이동

The purpose of this article is to analyse the occupational mobility of Korean workers with culture and arts jobs using Korea’s Employment Insurance Database. 31.6% of all culture and arts workers covered by Korea’s Employment Insurance experienced the occupation change during the 5 year period from 2009 to 2014, which means culture and arts workers are more occupationally mobile than any other occupation groups in Korea. Unlike in other occupations, male and younger workers with culture and arts jobs show higher occupational turnover rates. The workers working with large firms and those whose companies are located in non-capital regions are more likely to change their occupations. The empirical result from wage regression shows that the occupational mobility from culture and arts jobs to any other occupations can bring about the wage loss. Such loss can be even more severe when the moves are to elementary occupations. This result implies culture and arts workers choose the occupational move to maintain their employment status in EI member companies whose working conditions are more favorable compared to non-member companies. That is, the occupational move can be a mean for job security as they choose to continue to work even in other occupations with EI-member companies despite of some wage loss when they face the unstable situation in culture and arts jobs.
