An Examination of the essence of Kant’s ‘Conscience’ - Correlating the Error-free of Conscience and Court of Conscience -

초록

In this paper, I want to pay a special attention to ‘conscience’ discussed by Kant provided under the subjective conditions. The paper is based on the correlation between the court of conscience theory and error-free of conscience theory, which states that conscience is without mistakes. As mentioned above, I will clarify that, among the published works of Kant, the theory of conscience in metaphysics of Ethics concluded from a system of subjective moral is essentially the error-free conscience. Next, I will analyze, in a chronological order, the theory of conscience described in lecture on ethics. I will also confirm that error-free conscience identified in the section 2 of Kant’s ethics did not appear at the time of a system of moral but rather officially formulated as a system of subjective moral after 1790. Lastly, I will illustrate how error-free conscience discussed in the introduction of theory of conscience in metaphysics of Ethics is related to the court of conscience system-theory. Although Kant’s concept of conscience appears in the philosophy of religion, this paper will not touch on the topic.
