This study is on the design of the condensed form amongthe character gothic of the Korean alphabet, and is todevelop the design of a calligraphic style in the body ofthe text which has no reduction in the size due to thelimitation of space and no holding together of a strokeof the Korean alphabet in the technological media ofmodern times. The type of a calligraphic style reflects the changingtechnology and culture, and changes itself according tothe times. But in the various on and off-line spaces ofvariable devices at the present time, despite the high degreeof application of the vertical space with long length inthe proportion of the space and screen, the design of acalligraphic style for the vertical space does not exist. Andamong the cases of application of the calligraphic styleprovided for the various on and off-line devices, thereare repeated applications of unwanted deformation in acalligraphic style owing to the limited space, and theformative character of the existing calligraphic styles ofthe Korean alphabet is being marred. This is apparentespecially in the narrow space that is horizontally restrictedin the design area of a calligraphic style of the Koreanalphabet. This is because traditionally the calligraphic styleof the Korean alphabet is designed in the method ofdesigning the character in a regular square space. Althoughthe continuous studies on a calligraphic style of the Koreanalphabet suitable for the digital environment producedmany calligraphic styles for common use, the calligraphicstyle of the Korean alphabet considering the vertical spacehas not been developed. Therefore here is proposed a designfor the condensed form of the character gothic of theKorean alphabet which is legible and readable.
