학문적 기업가정신의 동인과 장애요인에 관한 연구: 대학교원의 기술창업 비교사례분석

본 연구는 대학교원이 창업한 연구기반 스핀오프벤처기업의 단계별 성장과정에 영향을 미치는 주요 요인들을 분석하고 학문적 기업가정신을 이끄는 동인과 저해하는 애로요인에 대하여 논의하고 있다. 그동안 국내 대학들은 기업가적 대학으로 변모하면서 대학교원을 대상으로 기업가정신을 장려해왔으나, 이에 대한 연구는 매우 미흡하다고 할 수 있다. 이러한 맥락에서 본 연구는 교수벤처기업의 상반된 성과를 보여주는 두 사례들을 선정하여 비교사례분석을 통해 거시적, 중위적, 미시적 수준의 다양한 요인들을 설명하고 더불어 교수 기술창업의 성공을 이끄는 요인과 저해하는 요인을 함께 규명하였다. 본 연구는 대학 스핀오프벤처기업의 성장모델을 활용하여 각 단계별로 교수창업자들이 직면하게 되는 어려움이나 과제 등을 살펴보고 단계별 성장과정에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 사례기업별로 분석하고 비교하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 ‘기업가적 대학’이라는 패러다임 속에서 학문적 기업가들에 대한 면밀한 이해를 돕고 최근 고급연구인력의 창업 비중을 확대하려는 노력이 증대되는 상황에서 학문적 기업가정신을 촉진할 수 있는 유용한 시사점을 제시하고 있다.
Abstract
This study explores factors fostering and hampering academic entrepreneurship by examining the founding and growth process of faculty spin-off firms. Using a stage model of academic spin-off creation, a comparative case analysis of faculty spin-off ventures was conducted to shed light on the major issues at four successive stages of development. Two contrasting cases were analyzed and compared to identify key factors leading to success and failure of technology- based ventures. Since attempts have been increasingly made to vitalize academic entrepreneurship in recent years, the findings can contribute to a better understanding of academic entrepreneurs and their spin-off activities in the paradigm of the ‘entrepreneurial university.’ It also provides useful implications for increasing performance and success probability of faculty spin-off firms.
