공정공시 수준이 투자효율성에 미치는 영향

초록
본 연구는 공정공시 수준과 투자효율성 간의 관련성에 대해 검증하였다. 선행연구에 따르면, 공정공시 수준이 높을수록 기업과 정보이용자들 간의 정보비대칭이 완화되고 기업정보의 질이 투명해짐으로써 기업의 자본조달비용이 낮아지는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 긍정적인 평가를 받고 있는 공정공시제도도 경영자가 예측공시를 할 경우에는 목표이익을 달성하기 위해 이익조정을 수행함으로써 회계정보의 질은 낮아진다는 결과 또한 나타나고 있어 혼재된 결과를보여준다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 선행연구에 더하여 공정공시 수준이 투자효율성에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 분석결과, 공정공시 수준이 높은 기업은 그렇지 않은 기업에 비해 과소투자는 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 과소투자 확률이 높을 때 공정공시 수준이 높으면 투자가 증진됨을 의미한다. 그리고 과잉투자 가능성이 증가함에 따라 투자가 증가하는 정도는 공정공시 수준이 높은기업은 그렇지 않은 기업에 비해 약한 것으로 나타났으며, 과대투자 가능성이 높을 때는 공정공시 수준이 높은 기업은 그렇지 않은 기업에 비해 투자를 적게 하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한결과를 통해 공정공시 수준은 투자효율성에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다는 것을 알 수 있다. 본 연구는 투자효율성과 관련된 연구가 많지 않은 상황에서 공정공시 수준이 기업의 투자의사결정에 미치는 영향에 대해 분석하였다는 데 의의가 있다. 즉, 공정공시제도로 인해 정보비대칭이 완화됨으로써 자본조달이 용이하며 자본비용이 낮아 기업의 과소투자를 감소시키는데영향을 미친다는 것을 밝혔다는 데 의의가 있다.
Abstract
We examine the effect of fair disclosure level on investment efficiency. According to the findings in prior studies, firms with more expansive disclosures are associated with lower costs of capital. Moreover, it is argued that greater disclosure enhances stock market liquidity by reducing cost of capital through reduction of transaction costs and information risks. However, the fair disclosure system, which is evaluated positively, also shows mixed results because the quality of accounting information is lowered by performing profit adjustment in order to achieve the target profit when the manager makes predictive disclosure. Therefore, We examine the effect of fair disclosure level on investment efficiency in addition to previous studies. The results show that fair disclosure levels have an positive effect on investment efficiency. We find a conditional negative(positive) association between fair disclosure level and investment firms operating in settings more prone to over-investment(under-investment). The results of this study, showing the systematic association between the fair disclosures and firms’ investment efficiency.
