많은 이해관계인들에게 기업의 미래 가치 변화는 중요한 관심사 중의 하나이다. 본 연구의 목적은 기업이 보유한 특허의 양적, 질적 특성을 반영하여 특허의 가치를 금액으로 측정하는 방법을 제안하고, 측정된 특허 가치 금액이 기업의 미래 가치 변화를 예측하는 데 유용하게 활용될 수 있음을 실증적으로 분석하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 특허의 일반화된 가치에 특허 강도, 특허 영향력, 특허 포트폴리오 활동성, 특허 포트폴리오 밀접성을 반영하여 기업이 보유한 특허의 가치를 산출하였다. 측정된 특허 가치 대비 시장가치의 비율에따라 기업을 4개 유형으로 구분하고, 18개월 동안의 기업 가치 변화를 비교, 분석하였다. 그 결과 특허 가치 대비 시장가치가 3미만인 기업들의 시장가치 증가율은 48.65%(12개월)와 44.46%(18개월)로 비교 집단에 비해 월등히높게 나타났다. 또한 특허 가치를 포함한 기업 특성 변수들이 기업의 시장가치 증가율에 미치는 효과를 회귀분석한 결과 특허 가치가 시장가치 변화에통계적으로 유의한 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 이를 통해 기업이 보유한특허의 가치가 기업의 미래 가치 변화를 예측하는 데 유용하게 활용될 수 있음을 확인하였다.
Abstract
For many stakeholders, changing the future value of the firm is one of the major concerns. The purpose of this study is to propose a method of measuring the value of a firm’s patents and show that patents value can be usefully used to predict changes in future value of the firm. In this study, the value of patents held by a firm is measured using knowledge capital, general value of patents, patent strength, patent impact, patent portfolio activity, and closeness relationship of patent portfolio. According to the ratio of the market value of firms to the value of the patents, the firms were classified into four types and the changes in the market value during 18 months were compared and analyzed. The market value growth of firms with low market value ratios compared to patents value is higher than that of the comparative group. And the result of the regression analysis shows that value of patents is positively related to the market value growth of firms. The result of this study is confirmed that the value of patents can be useful in predicting changes in future value of a firm.
