사회적 정의를 위한 디자인 교육: 홍익대학교 디자인영상학부 사례연구

초록
본 연구의 목적은 홍익대학교 디자인영상학부의 사회적 디자인교육 사례들을 통해서 실천적 사회 참여 의식을 함양한 디자이너를 양성하는 대학 디자인교육의 의미를 고찰하고 나아가 미래 한국 디자인교육의 방향을 제안하는데 있다. 국내 대학의 디자이너 양성은 근대 이후 산업화 과정과 맞물려 그 중요성과 영향력이 증대되면서 디자인 교육의 목표가 관련 산업에 적합한 실무 중심의 전문가 육성에 중점을 두었었다. 그러나 디자인을 한 사회의 문화로 인식할 때 현재의 전문 기능인 중심의 디자인교육 목표와 방법은 재고되어야 한다. 문화예술교육에 있어서 사회적 역할을 중요하게 생각하는 것처럼 국내 디자인교육에서도 사회 참여적 태도를 배양할 수 있는 심화된 교육과정이 마련되어야 할 것이다. 홍익대학교 디자인영상학부의 커뮤니케이션디자인전공과 프로덕트디자인전공을 중심으로 이루어진 교육과정에서 사회적 정의와 관련된 교육사례들을 교과와 비교과 과정으로 구분하여 분석한 후 그 교육적 의미와 성과를 알아보았다. 연구 결과로서 본 연구 대상 대학의 디자인 학습에 있어서 전공 지식 뿐 아니라 사회적 책임의식을 배양하는 것이 중요함을 파악하였다. 그리고 이 학부에 소속되어 관련 교육활동에 참여한 교수와 학생의 인터뷰를 통해서 사회적 디자인교육의 효과와 의미를 고찰하였다. 대학의 사회적 디자인교육의 근간을 사람으로부터 시작하고, 함께 공존 공생하는 의미로서 사회적 디자인 행위를 실현해나가는 것을 교육하는 것이 중요하다. 본 연구 자료들을 기초로 해서 앞으로 국내 대학에서의 사회적 디자인교육의 올바른 의미와 방향을 제시하고자 한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the significance of university design education to cultivate designers who cultivate awareness of practical social participation through examples of social design education in Hongik University. As the importance and influence of designers of domestic universities grew with the industrialization process since the modern era, the aim of design education was focused on nurturing professional - oriented specialists for related industries. However, when design is perceived as a culture of society, the design education goals and methods should be reconsidered. As the social role in cultural arts education is important, it is necessary to prepare an advanced curriculum that can cultivate social participation attitude in domestic design education. In this study, I analyzed the educational cases related to social justice in the curriculum focusing on Communication Design major and Product Design major of Hongik University. As a result of the study, it was recognized that it is important to cultivate social responsibility awareness as well as major knowledge in the design learning. In addition, the effect and meaning of social design education were identified through interviews with professors and students who participated in the related education activities. I found that it is important to start teaching people the basis of social design education at universities and realize the design act as a meaning to coexist together. Based on these research data, I will present the true meaning and direction of social design education in domestic universities.
