기업 국제화 결정요인에 관한 연구: 연구개발 조절효과 검증을 중심으로

본 연구는 국제화 결정요인에 관한 연구로서 현금보유가 국제화에 미치는 영향을 조사하고 연구개발 역량이 현금보유와 국제화 사이의 관련성을 조절하는가를 규명하고자 한다. 분석을 위하여 글로벌 금융위기가 촉발된 시기인 2007년에서 최근 2015년까지 9년간의 자료를 이용하였으며 한국 KOSPI 시장의 기업을 대상으로 4,073개의 기업-년도 관측자료를 사용하였다. 이를 기업의 국제화 결정요인을 분석하기 위해 시계열 자료를 토대로 고정효과추정(fixed effect estimation)을 이용하여 연구가설에 대한 가설검증을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 기업의 현금보유는 국제화에 양(+)의 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 과도한 양의 현금보유는 국제화에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 기업의 연구개발 역량은 현금보유와 국제화 사이의 양(+)의 조절효과를 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 글로벌 금융위기 이후 급증한 기업의 현금보유는 기업의 국제화 활동을 촉진하는 것에 기여할 수 있으며 이와 더불어 증가한 현금보유가 연구개발비 투자 활동을 가속화 하여 기업의 국제화 활동에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 볼 수 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of cashholdings on internationalization of listed manufacturing firms. We explore moderating effect of R&D capabilities between cashholdings and internationalization of firms. We analysed cross-sectional data of listed companies from 2007 to 2015 using the fixed effects estimation. Empirical results showed that the there was a positive significant relation between cashholdings and internationalization of firms. This study also found that R&D have a significant positive moderating effect between cashholdings and internationalization. Investment in R&D for global competitiveness might increase the cashholdings of corporate. R&D have strong incentives to build and manage a buffer stock of cash liquidities to internationalization. These results suggest that R&D with cashholdings is very important for understanding cash management.
