An Examination of Sports Circles' Norm Culture Based on The Act on the Prohibition of Giving and Taking Illegal Requests and Bribes, etc.: Focused on university culture

This study aims to more objectively examine the norm culture of the university's sports circles based on the Act on the Prohibition of Giving and Taking Illegal Requests and Bribes, etc.(also known as Kim Young-ran Act) which began to be enforced in September 2016. For the methodology, using the purposeful sampling method, 17 students in physical education departments in universities A in the Seoul metropolitan area B in the Gangwonand C in the Chungcheong region (physical education professors, athletic supervisors and coaches, parents, outside instructors, athletic students, athletic department general students, and graduate students) were sampled and surveyed through interviews and semistructured questionnaires. The data were analyzed, and thus the following results were derived. Found in the norm culture of the university's sports circles were ‘an exceptional view of the sports circles' norm culture, an distorted understanding of improper norm, hierarchical norm behavior and implicit requests, the learning and transfer of traditional norm, institutionalization of wrong norm, and request for spreading consens and gradual change.
