미국 소비자제품안전법제의 체계와 시사점

The purpose of this article is to find implications for south korea's consumer product safety legislation, through reviewing the history and status of U.S consumer product safety legislation and the government administration. This paper describes separately the consumer product safety commission(CPSC) and the legislative system of Consumer Product Safety(Consumer Product Safety Act(CPSA) and Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008(CPSIA)). The consumer product safety commission(CPSC) is key organization that implements the U.S government's consumer product safety policy. Looking at functions and roles of CPSC, it is possible to understand the policy's direction of consumer safety product and related governance system. And then the legislative system of Consumer Product Safety is reviewed by consumer safety standards, consumer injury information system, product certification and labeling, prohibited act and penalties etc. The strong point regarding the Legislative System of U.S Consumer Product Safety could be summed up by the comprehensive management system of consumer injury information and the systematic guidance scheme what could make manufacturer and retailer comply with consumer safety standards. That is what is worth to south korea's of consumer product safety policy and laws.
