The paper proposes an improved NDIF method for the free vibration analysis of simply supported plates having arbitrary shapes. The NDIF method, which was developed by the author in 1999, yields highly accurate solution compared with FEM and BEM. However, the NDIF method has the weak point that the diagonal elements of its system matrix become singular in the case of the simply supported boundary condition. In the paper, a new formulation of the NDIF method is developed to overcome this weak point. Finally, it is revealed from a case study for a circular plate having an exact solution that the proposed method is valid and accurate.

Abstract
