시설관리서비스산업의 노동의 특성과 작업장의 사회적 관계구조에 대한 연구: 대학사업장 청소ㆍ경비 업무를 중심으로

This paper explores the characteristics of facilities management service industry by focusing on the multiple relation structures at workplace. Firstly, this study reveals the following four characteristics of workers in this industry based on participant observation in the workplace. The workers in facilities management service industry-janitors and security guards-are 1) demographically old, 2) economically marginalized and the value of their labor is 3) socially devalued, and their voice is 4) politically underrepresented. Secondly, this paper analyses the labor regime of the industry which is consisted of each mutual relationship structure of the four subjects in this industry- the prime contractor and subcontractor, the worker, and customers. The multiple relationship structures in workplace are as follows. 1) Employment relations and 2) control relations between management and workers, 3) co-worker relations among workers, and 4) customer relations between customers and workers. The analysis of these relationship structures is to grasp the interrelationship between the characteristics of labor and the social relations of the workplace. This is an attempt to clarify the structure and context in which discrimination and inequality prevalent in the facilities management service industry are widespread. It also examines the possibility of changes in workplace structures and labor characteristics due to interactions among subjects in the industry.
