기업의 온실가스배출량이 기업가치에 미치는 영향

본 연구에서는 기업의 온실가스배출량이 기업가치에 미치는 영향을 검증하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 2011년부터 2014년까지 국내 기업들이 CDP(Carbon Disclosure Project, 탄소공개프로젝트)에 공시한 기업의 온실가스배출량 정보와 기업가치에 대한 측정치인 토빈큐를 이용하였다. 실증분석결과, 당기의 온실가스배출량과 당기 및 차기의 기업가치 사이에는 음의 관련성이 있음을 확인하였다. 즉 기업의 온실가스배출량이 일종의 기후변화위험을 반영하는 것으로 작용하여 기업가치의 하락에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 시차조정을 통한 내생성 통제 및 2SLS를 통한 자기선택편의를 통제한 후에도 일관되게 나타났다. 추가로 기업의 온실가스배출과 관련된 배출권 거래제와 목표관리제의 효과도 분석한 결과, 배출권거래제는 차기의 기업가치에 유의한 음의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 하지만 당기의 기업가치에는 배출권거래제와 목표관리제는 영향을 미치지 않았으며, 온실가스배출량과의 교차항도 기업가치에 대해 유의한 설명력을 가지지 않는 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
This study examines the effect of Green House Gas(GHG) emission on the firm value using the Carbon Disclosure Project data from 2011 to 2014. The proxy of firm value is the Tobin’s Q. We find that level of GHG emission have a negative impact on firm value in this term and next term. In other words, GHG emission reflects a climate change risk and affect the decline of firm value. This result is consistent even after controlling for endogeneity through time-lag adjustment and self-selection bias through 2SLS. In addition, the analysis of the emission trading system(ETS) and the target management system(TMS) related to the GHG emission have a negative impact on the firm value in next term. However, the ETS and TMS did not affect the firm value in this term, and it was not found significant result with interactive term consist of ETS, TMS and GHG emission level.
