교도소 내 테러리스트 급진화: 법률적용, 수용자 취약성, 그리고 이론적 모델 소개

There has been concerns about radicalization toward extremism and terrorism in prison settings. Some argue that prisons a place where can become breeding grounds for radicalization and terrorism. That is mainly due to various and typical vulnerabilities of prisons, such as criminality of inmates, hostile environments of prison setting and lacks of social supports for the inmates. Especially, Jihadism, Islamic extremism appears to have greater influence in infiltrating radicalization among prison inmates. These concerns reflects that prisons became places of radicalization posing significant threats against security and counterterrorism measures by generating homegrown terrorists. Despite being an important issue in this field of security and terrorism, there are still lack of studies regarding this prison radicalization problems. This current study aims to provide an overview on prison radicalization toward terrorism, expecially Islamic Jiadism. This study also explores sentencing practices and cases regarding prison radicalizations, risk factors and vulnerabilities relevant with prison radicalizations, and theoretical models explaining mechanisms and process of prison radicalization. In conclusion, this study discussed policy implications and future research suggestions on this topic.
