소년원 및 보호관찰 청소년의 정신건강 결정요인

이 연구는 비행 청소년의 정신건강이 가족해체, 부모의 방임과 학대의 효과를 가늠할 수있는 요인이자, 향후 안정적 사회복귀 및 재범을 예측할 수 있는 중요한 변수라는 점에 주목하여, 비행 청소년의 정신건강에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 분석하였다. 본 연구에서는 정신건강의 두가지 차원(긍정적 요인과 부정적 요인)을 고려하여 분석에 반영하였다. 분석을 위해, 한국청소년정책연구원과 여성가족부가 수행한 『2015년 학교 밖 청소년 실태조사』 데이터를 활용하였으며, 소년원 및 보호관찰 청소년을 연구대상으로 선정하였다. 연구문제는 다음의 두 가지이다. 첫째, 비행 청소년의 배경변수에 따라 집단 간 정신건강에 차이가 있는가? 둘째, 비행 청소년의정신건강에는 어떤 요인들이 영향을 끼치는가? 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 소년원 및 보호관찰청소년 집단 공통적으로, 여자 청소년일수록, 경제적 수준이 낮을수록 정신건강이 취약한 것을확인할 수 있었다. 다음으로, 비행 청소년의 정신건강에는 개인변수(성별, 학업성취 수준), 가정배경에 해당하는 모든 변수와 사회적 지지 변수들이 고르게 영향을 미치는 것으로 파악되었다. 특히 주목할 만한 결과는 가정배경 변수 중, 경제적 수준이나 가족구조와 같은 환경적 변수외에도 부모지지, 방임 및 학대, 가족관계의 질 등 가족기능과 관련된 변수들이 비행 청소년의정신건강에 의미 있는 영향을 끼치고 있는 점이었다. 분석 결과를 토대로, 연구자는 비행 청소년의 정신건강 증진과 관련한 몇 가지 시사점을 논의하였다.
Abstract
This study analyzed determinants of mental health for juvenile delinquents, considering that the mental health is both a outcome reflects family dissolution, parental abuse and neglect, and a predictor of recidivism. Mental health, in this study includes negative(depression and anxiety) and positive(affect regulation and self esteem) factors. 2015 survey on out-of-school youths data were used in the analysis and research subjects are juvenile offenders in reformatory and under probation. Author explored two research questions. First, is there group differences of mental health by background variables? Second, which factors affect the mental health for juvenile delinquents? It is found that there is a clear difference of mental health in relation to respondents’ sex and economic background. Mental health of female adolescents and lower economic status group adolescents are more vulnerable. According to results of determinants of mental health for juvenile delinquents, individual factors(sex and academic achievement), all family background factors and social support variables are significant for mental health of them. The meaningful finding is that family functioning variables(parental abuse and neglect, parental support, family cohesion etc.) are important to mental health as well as family environment. Grounded on the results, author proposed some issues and implications around improving plans of mental health for juvenile delinquents.
