Objectives: The study was conducted on order to compare and analyze the effect of group-education and that of individual-education on patients with mastectomy. Methods: The study was done on patients with mastectomy at 3 university hospitals allocated in Seoul. Twenty-two patients received group-education and 18, individual-education. To evaluate the effect of group-education and individual-education, self-efficacy, compliance of health behavior, frequency of lymphedema, and quality of life was assessed. Results: To compare the degree of self-efficacy in the two groups, the result of ANCOVA, there was no statistically difference between the two groups (p=.191). To compare the degree of compliance of health behavior in the two groups, the result of ANCOVA showed that the degree of nutritional management (p=.024), daily activities management (p=.049), and lymphedema preventive exercising (p=.001) was significantly higher in the individual-education group than the group-education group. The frequency of lymphedema in the two groups pre-test and post-test did not differ (p>.999). To compare the degree of the quality of life in the two groups, the result of ANCOVA, there was no difference in the quality of life between the two groups (p=.713). Conclusion: Based on the results of the study, compliance of health behavior related content among the repetitive group-education program should be periodically monitored, and individualized supplementary measures of individual-education is necessary to promote the compliance of health behavior.
