A Study on Relationship Between Users’ Perceived Psychological Ownership and Their Protection Behaviors on Personal Information

Since there are growing concerns regarding personal information, users may have perceived the importance of it. It makes users try to possess and control personal information by their own intentions. Therefore, we assumed users now have begun to recognize psychological ownership on personal information. Our aim of this research is to investigate the relationship between users’ perceived psychological ownership and their protection behaviors on personal information. Additionally, we figure out how users’ self-efficacy, response-efficacy, perceived severity and vulnerability toward information security influence to their psychological ownership by applying protection motivation theory. To achieve this goal, we conduct a survey and establish a structural equation model for testing hypothesis. This study contributes to the expansion of related research as a foundation of psychological ownership on personal information. The results of this study also can provide a way for how firms have to require clients’ personal information with increasing their satisfactions.
