특허의 Problem-Solution 텍스트 마이닝을 활용한 기술경쟁정보 분석 방법

경쟁기업들의 보유기술을 분석하는 것은 기술환경변화 파악과 그에 따른기술기획을 위해 필수적이다. 이를 위해 다양한 특허분석 방법들이 제시되었지만, 기존연구들은 특허명세서의 항목별로 기재된 내용의 특성을 효과적으로 활용하지 못했다는 한계점이 있다. 따라서, 본 연구는 특허문서로부터‘해결하고자 하는 문제’와 ‘해결방법’을 추출 및 분석하여 기술경쟁 동향을 파악하는 새로운 관점의 특허분석 방법을 제시한다. 본 연구가 제시하는 방법은 1) 특허로부터 ‘해결하고자 하는 문제’와 ‘해결방법’ 항목의 텍스트 집합에토픽모델링을 적용하여 분석대상 기업들이 가진 공통의 문제와 해결방법을토픽의 형태로 파악하고, 2) 파악된 문제와 해결방법 간의 관계를 Problem- Solution 네트워크로 표현한 뒤, 3) 관심 기업 간의 기술경쟁 동향을 비교 및분석한다. 본 연구는 자동차부품 관련 기업들의 특허를 활용한 사례연구를통해 제시된 방법의 활용성을 파악한다. 본 연구의 방법은 종래에 제시되지않았던 Problem-Solution 관점에서 경쟁기업들의 기술개발 동향분석을 지원하며, 따라서 잠재적 기술파트너를 탐색하거나 기업의 보유기술을 기반으로 하는 새로운 기술시장 탐색을 위한 목적으로 활용될 수 있다.
Abstract
Analyzing the trends of a technology and competitors in which a firm takes an interest is a prerequisite for technology planning for the firm’s sustainable growth. Despite the patent-based methods supporting such technology trend analysis, most of them did not make full use of the text of problems and solutions contained in patent documents regulated by the Common Application Format(CAF) of IP5 countries. Therefore, this study suggests an approach that identifies and analyzes common problems and solutions contained in the patents related to the firms or technologies of interest. To this end, this study applies topic modeling to the text of the sections describing the technical problems and the solutions that the patents deal with. Then, this study constructs problem-solution networks using the identified problems and solutions, and compares and analyzes technology trends among the firms or technology of interest. To show the workings of the approach, a case study using patents of automobile parts manufacturers is conducted. Our approach can be used to identify trends of competing companies and make decision for technology planning. In addition, it can be used to identify potential partners who can help technically or new technology markets based on a firm’s technological capabilities.
