초록
본 연구는 외국인투자자가 투자기업의 감사품질에 미치는 영향을 외국인투자자의 투자성향 측면에서 실증적으로 검증하였다. 지금까지 외국인투자자 관련 연구에서는 주로 기말시점의 외국인지분율을 외국인투자자의 대리변수로 활용하여 왔으나, 이는 외국인투자자의 투자성향을 대리하기에 적절한 측정치가 아닐 수 있다. 반면, 외국인투자자의 투자기간은 이들이 장기 투자목적인지 혹은 단기 투자목적인지 구별하는 데 적합하다 할 수 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 외국인투자자의 투자기간을 외국인투자자의 대리변수로 활용하여, 외국인투자자의 투자성향이 감사품질에 미치는 영향을 검증하였다. 이를 위해 감사품질의 대리변수는 감사보수, 감사시간, 그리고 감사인규모를 활용하였다. 검증결과, 외국인투자자의 투자성향이 장기인 기업이 그렇지 않은 기업에 비해 감사품질 수준이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이에 따르면 장기관점에서 투자하는 외국인투자자들이 많을수록 상대적으로 높은 수준의 감사품질을 유지하거나 효율성 높은 모니터링 효과로 인해 감사품질 수준이 높은 것으로 기대할 수 있다. 한편 이러한 결과는 외국인투자자의 투자성향에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 기업규모를 통제한 추가분석에서도 지지되었다. 본 연구는 외국인투자기간을 활용하여 외국인투자자의 투자성향이 감사품질에 미치는 영향을 검증한 첫 연구라는 점에서 연구의 의의가 있다고 할 수 있다. 본 연구가 한국자본시장에서 외국인투자자의 역할을 설명하는 데 조금이나마 도움이 되기를 기대한다.
Abstract
We investigates the impact of investment tendency of foreign investor on the audit quality. To do this, we measured investment horizons of foreign investors as the investment－turnover of foreign investors and we divided foreign investor into long－term investor and short－term investor according to investment horizons of foreign investors. And we analyzed the relevance between investment horizons of foreign investors and audit quality. We used Audit Fee, Audit Time, and Auditor Size as proxy for audit quality. The result of this study’s is as followed. The investment horizons of foreign investors have a positive relevance with audit quality. So our result shows that the firm have a long－term foreign investors has a good audit quality than the firm have a short－term foreign investors. And These Results supported by additional analysis that use another measurements(Audit Fee, Audit Time) were deflated firm size(total asset). Our Study has a contribution that this study extended prior research on foreign investors by utilizing investment horizons of foreign investors.
