This study analyzes the relationship between managerial ability using DEA and the risk of disaster among individual firms. The managerial ability impact on a company variously. In the prior literatures, the factors that may affect the disaster were analyzed through questionnaires, and the result showed that the CEO's influence on corporate disaster was existed, but the effect of the managerial ability on the disaster was not yet researched. The managerial ability is defined as managerial competence measure by using the data envelope analysis (DEA) introduced by Demerjian et al. (2012). The disaster of an individual company was measured by DRATE and DDAY, and it is considered that the number of days of lost work is an index that reflects the severity of the accident compared to the accident rate. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the managerial ability and DDAY are statistically significant negative. It is interpreted that if the managerial ability is high, it can reduce the serious disaster of the individual enterprise. The contribution of this study is to demonstrate empirically that managerial ability is related to a major disaster of an individual company, and to expand the scope of the related research by discovering new factors influencing a major disaster of an individual company. In addition, most of the prior literatures were conducted using the survey of the business units., the disclosure data of the enterprise unit, however this study uses the massive disclosure data of th firm level.
