This study investigates the effects of alliance governance includingcontractual and relational governance on alliance performance. Wepropose an analytical framework for examining the role of alliancegovernance on alliance performance with moderating andmediating effects. We obtain 205 survey responses from Koreanfirms that have experienced technology alliances. Empiricalfindings show that the relationship between alliance governanceand alliance performance is moderated by knowledge acquisition. A contractual governance has a greater influence on explicitknowledge acquisition than tacit knowledge acquisition. On theother hand, relational governance is more closely related to tacitknowledge than to explicit knowledge. The influence of theinteraction between relational governance and contractualgovernance on the performance appears to be negative.
