The Effect of Lecture on Oral Presentation on Assertive Behavior, Self-Esteem and Learning Attitude in Nursing Students : Focusing on Teaching instructor and Untrained teacher

The purpose of this study was to evaluate changes in assertive behavior, self-esteem and learning attitude after lecture on oral presentation. The design was a nonequivalent control group pretest-post test design. The participants were college students in nursing, of which 10 were assigned to the experimental group(Teaching instructor) and 23 to the control group(Untrained teacher). The education was carried out for 2 hours, once a week for 14 weeks. Of collected data, were analyzed with SPSS/WIN 14 program and included chi-square test, independent t-test, and repeated measure ANOVA. Conclusions obtained from these methods and analysis procedures are as follows. First, lecture on oral presentation showed significant differences in the changes of assertive behavior(F=5.275, p<.001) and self-Esteem (F=4.411, p<.001). Second, lecture on oral presentation showed significant differences in the changes of experimental group learning attitude(3.91) and control group learning attitude(3.73). Findings suggest that this lecture on oral presentation was effective in changing students' assertive behavior, self-esteem and learning attitude.
