Analyzing the innovation level of a product is important in that it enables identification of the product's promiseand analysis of product development stage. Although there are existing studies to measure the innovation of thetechnology using various patent indicators, attempts to quantify the innovation level from the product point ofview have been insufficient and have mainly relied on the qualitative evaluation of experts. In this study, we useproduct name and product-patent relation databases to define the product innovation as a combination ofquantitative and qualitative progress of the analyzed product, analyze the innovation pattern of the product, anddevelop an index for product innovativeness analysis. As a result of analyzing 100 sample products, it was foundthat spiral development patterns appeared over time in the products with a certain number of related patents. This study can be used to determine the direction of future development of the products of interest by measuringtheir innovativeness with the proposed index.
