본 연구에서는 한국 육상 남자 800m의 한국기록변천과정을 살펴보았다. 첫 한국기록은 1926년 조선신궁대회에서 황대선(평북)이 세운 2분14초3이었다. 1932년부터 41년까지 오태경(진남포)과 손기정(양정고), 류장춘(체신국), 김혁진(동경)이 기록을 경신하였고 마라톤의 손기정도 800m에서도 활약한 것으로 나타났다. 1947년에 이윤석(고려대, 1분57초1)에 의해 2분대를 돌파하였다. 1954년부터 58년까지 심상옥은 4차례 한국기록을 수립하며 1분52초3까지 단축시켰다. 1960년 초반은 정경모(1분51초8)가 기록을 경신하였고 후반에는 박석관이 활약하며 기록을 단축시켰다. 1981년에 김복주는 1분48초47로 1분50초대로 단축하는데 성공한다. 그는 1986년 서울아시안게임에서 금메달을 차지하며 한국 800m가 아시아에서 정상에 서는데 결정적 역할을 하게 된다. 90년에 이진일(경희대)는 1994년과 98년 아시안게임을 대회 2연패를 비롯해 총 3회의 한국기록을 경신한다. 그는 94년 종합선수권에서 1분44초14의 기록으로 대기록 수립하였다. 2000년 이후 아시아 육상은 중동국가의 아프리카 귀화선수들을 중심으로 한국 800m 선수들은 설자리를 잃어갔다. 한국 남자 800m는 이처럼 한 때 아시아에서 최강이었기 다시 우리의 찬란한 위상을 되찾길 바란다.
Abstract
In this study, the changes of men's 800m race in Korea are reviewed. The first Korean record was 2:14.3 made by Hwang Dae-seon(Pyeongbuk) at Joseon Shrine Athletic Meeting in 1926. From 1932 to 1941, Oh Tae-gyeong(Jinnampo), Son Kee-jeong(Yangjeong High School), Ryu Jang-chun(Chesinguk) and Kim Hyeok-jin(Donggyeong) renewed highest records, and Son Kee-jeong of marathon also took an active part in 800m race. In 1947, the record of faster than 2 minutes was made by Lee Yun-suk(Korea University, 1:57.1) in 1947. From 1954 to 1958, Sim Sang-ok established Korean records four times and shortened record to 1:52.3. In early 1960s, Jeong Gyeong-mo(1:51.8) broke the record, and in late 1960s, Park Suk-gwan shortened record. In 1981, Kim Bok-ju succeeded in shortening record to faster than 1:50 by establishing 1:48.47 of record. He won gold medal at Seoul Asian Games in 1986, playing a critical role in making 800m race of Korea the best in Asia. In 1990, Lee Jin-il(Kyunghee University) broke Korean records three times including the first place at Asian Games in 1994 and 1998. He set a milestone at All-round Championships in 1994 with 1:44.1 of record. After 2000, the status of 800m race in Korea fell greatly in Asian Athletics due to African athletes naturalized to Middle East. Men's 800m race of Korea used to be the best in Asia, so it is anticipated that their glorious status will be restored.
