The Effects of Changes in Innovation and Marketing Capabilities on Export Growth: An Analysis of Small- and Medium-sized Ventures Listed in KONEX

Small- and medium-sized ventures can accomplish substantial export growth through resource-investments in innovation and marketing, and diversification strategy. Because the size of a venture may influence its resource-allocation, risk-taking, and strategic choices in the exporting context, it is inevitable to explore how small- and medium-sized ventures achieve export growth. Based significantly on the resource-advantage theory of competition, the current research proposed a model explaining the effects of small- and medium-sized ventures’ resource-investments and diversification strategy on their export growth. The model was empirically tested with an archival dataset of Korean small- and medium-sized export-ventures’ finance and accounting. The sample events of this research were the investments in innovation and marketing of small- and medium- sized ventures listed in the KONEX. The results of a multiple regression analysis exhibited that a Korean small- and medium-sized venture’s investment in innovation may lead positively to its export grow. Nonetheless, a Korean small- and medium-sized venture’s investment in marketing and diversification strategy may insignificantly influence its export growth.
