선물시장과 옵션시장의 정보효과에 관한 비교연구 : VPIN 중심으로

본 연구는 거래량 기반 정보거래확률(volume synchronized probability of informed trading, 이하 VPIN)과 변동성지수를 이용하여 KOSPI200선물과 KOSPI200옵션의 KOSPI200수익률에 대한 정보효과를 분석하였다. 검증기간은 2003년 1월 3일부터 2018년 12월 28일까지 16년 3,958일이다. 본 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 변동성지수와 변동성지수의 변화는 KOSPI200수익률과 동일시차에 유의한 음(-)의 관계를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 변동성지수 보다 변동성지수의 변화가 KOSPI200수익률에 대한 설명력이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, VPIN은 KOSPI200수익률과 동일시차에 유의한 음(-)의 관계를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 VPIN의 변화는 유의한 양(+)의 값을 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 변동성지수의 변화와 VPIN의 변화가 변동성지수와 VPIN의 수준 보다 미래 60일간의 KOSPI200수익률에 의미 있는 예측력을 가지는 것을 발견하였다. 넷째, 변동성지수와 VPIN는 KOSPI200수익률에 대해 비대칭성을 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 다섯째, 강건성 분석결과, 변동성지수의 변화와 VPIN의 변화가 KOSPI200수익률에 대해서 기간과 수익률측정기간에 관계없이 일관성 있는 예측력을 보였다. 이상의 결과를 바탕으로 사전적으로 현물시장의 변동성과 가격변화를 탐색할 수 있을 것으로 기대되며, 또한 시장위험에 대한 유용한 예고지표로 활용할 수 있다는 것을 시사하고 있다.
Abstract
This study analyzed the information effect of futures market and option market using volatility index (VKOSPI) and volume synchronized probability of informed trading (VPIN). The main results of this study are as follows: First, the changes in VKOSPI and VKOSPI have a negative relationship with the return of KOSPI200, and the changes in volatility index is more higher explanatory power than the volatility index. Second, VPIN has a negative relationship with the return of KOSPI200. And the VPIN change has a positive relationship with the return of KOSPI200. Third, we found that the change in variables rather than the variable level has a significant predictive power over the 60-day KOSPI200 return. Fourth, VKOSPI and VPIN are asymmetric with respect to KOSPI200 returns. Fifth, as a result of the robustness analysis, the change of VKOSPI and the change of VPIN have a consistent predictive power on the KOSPI 200 return.
