칠판 앞의 삶: 사교육 강사의 불안정 노동

This study explores the lives of tutors working in the private education field, which is considered to be an important social problem in Korean society. This paper sees the private education market as a market where educational services are traded outside the school. This paper focuses on the tutors as service providers from the viewpoint of the social construction of market. This study examines the characteristics of precarious labor that service providers experience depending on the characteristics of market structure, paying attention to the market structure in which there are numerous suppliers and numerous consumers. As a result of looking closely at the private tutors’ workplace based on autoethnography and in-depth interviews, this paper found that the private tutors’ life in front of the blackboard was characterized by uncertainty of employment contract, insecurity of working conditions and social alienation. The only source of revenue in the private education market is tuition fees. Under this condition, if the tutor does not meet the consumer’s desire to achieve visible performance in the short term, it is difficult to maintain employment. In this structure, private tutors experience the uncertainty of employment contracts. Private tutors are also forced to work in insecure working conditions. This is because the supply of the tutor is always in excess supply.
