성폭력 원인에 대한 사회·경제적 분석

본 논문은 사회·경제적 관점에서 성폭력 원인을 분석하였다. 비용을 최소화하는 방법으로 개인이 성욕을 해소한다는 가정하에 성폭력 모형을 완성하였다. 모형 검증을 위해 성폭력 발생률을 종속변수, 그리고 살인발생률, 소득, 남녀비율, 남성고용률, 남성유배자비율을 독립변수로 하여 회귀분석을 하였다. 회귀분석은 13개 지역으로 구성된 1998~2010년 기간의 패널(panel) 자료를 사용하였다. 분석결과는 비용과 편익 분석에 따른 개인의 경제적 선택과 성욕 해소 경로를 제한 또는 확대하는 제도나 활동이 성폭력에 직접적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 구체적으로 성매매를 불법화한 성매매특별법은 성폭력 발생률을 증가시키는 것으로 나타났고, 배우자가 있는 남성이 많은 지역일수록 성폭력 발생률이 낮았다. 그리고 짝을 찾는 것을 어렵게 하는 남녀 간의 성비 불균형은 성폭력 발생률을 높였다. 대부분의 기존 범죄 연구와 마찬가지로 성폭력범죄에서도 적발 가능성과 처벌강도가 범죄 발생률에 영향을 미쳤다. 치안 수준이 열악한 지역에서 성폭력 발생률이 높았고, 수감에 따른 기회비용 높은 지역에서는 성폭력 발생률이 낮았다.
Abstract
From the socioeconomic perspective this paper attempts to identify the determinants of sexual violence. The model is constructed on the assumption that individuals satisfy their sexual desire in cost-saving way. In order to test the model, I regressed the sexual violence rate on murder rate, income, the imbalance of gender ratio, the male employment rate and the rate of males with female partners. A fixed effect and random effect regression are conducted on a panel data set that consists of 13 Korean provinces during the period of 1998~2010. They reveal that institutions that limit or expand the path to resolve sexual desire affect sexual violence. Specifically, the special law that prohibits prostitution increases sexual violence, the increase of the number of males with female partners reduces sexual violence and the imbalance of gender ratio also increases sexual violence. As previous studies, the likelihood of arrest and the severity of sanctions affect the occurrence of sexual violence. Thus, sexual violence increases in poor security areas and decreases in affluent areas where the opportunity cost of imprisonment is relatively high.
