초록
본고의 목적은 김수영 시론의 요소들 중의 하나인 ‘시인의 양심’이 의미화 되어 간 양상을 단계적으로 살펴봄으로써 김수영의 시론이 ‘주지적․전위적 참여시’를 지향해 나간 것이라는 점을 증명하는 데에 있다. 김수영의 시론에서 ‘시인의 양심’은 김수영이 ‘시인’에게 부여한 책무를 통해 의미화가 이루어지는 특별한 기호로서의 면모를 지닌 것이었다. 김수영의 시론에서 ‘시인의 양심’은 첫째 단계에서는 시인이 한국적 현실을 제대로 반영하는 데 요구되는 ‘시인의 사상’으로 의미화 되었고, 둘째 단계에서는 ‘현대성’을 기반으로 한 ‘현대의 양심’으로 특화되었고, 셋째 단계에서는 ‘세계’에 참여하는 ‘전위적 실천’으로 승화되었다. 그리고 ‘시인의 양심’에 대한 이런 의미화의 과정은 김수영이 ‘진정한 현대성’에 대한 자각을 바탕으로 시인이 지녀야 할 책무의 범위를 넓혀 나가는 과정이기도 하였다. 김수영은 ‘시인’으로 하여금 ‘한국적 현실’에 대한 참여에서 ‘세계와 인류의 미래’에 대한 참여로 나아가기를, ‘사상’을 지닌 ‘지성적 시인’에서 신념을 지닌 ‘행동적 시인’으로 나아가기를 촉구하였던 것이다. 따라서 ‘시인의 양심’의 의미화를 통해 보면, 김수영의 시론은 ‘주지적 참여시’에서 ‘주지적․전위적 참여시’를 지향해 나간 것이라고 말할 수 있다.
Abstract
In Kim Soo-young's essays on poetry, the term “the poet's conscience” functions as a special sign linked to the poet’s responsibilities, which were imposed on poets by Kim Soo-young. The sign is meaningful in the first stage as the poet’s thoughts, which are necessary for properly reflecting Korean realities. In the second stage, it is specialized as the modern conscience that emerges in modernity. In the third stage, it is sublimated into the avant-garde practice of engaging in the world. Through this process, Kim Soo-young urged poets to expand from engagement in the Korean realities to engagement in the future of the world and mankind; he further urged the transformation of the intellectual poet with thoughts to the behavioral poet with conviction. Therefore, analyzing the signification of “the poet's conscience” reveals that Kim Soo-young’s essays on poetry were oriented toward urging poets to create intellectual and avant-garde engagement poetry.
