노동조합이 제조기업의 노무 행태에 미치는 영향

[Purpose] This study investigates the labor cost behavior of Korean public manufacturing firms. By focusing on whether the existence of labor union affects the labor cost behavior, we examine how labor unions influence human resource policy of Korean manufacturing firms. We also verify the influence of union in the higher hierarchy. [Methodology] We collect labor salaries and non－labor salaries expenses data by using the nature of expense disclosure under IFRS. Multiple regression analyses have been performed on the 4,113 firm－year observations from 2011 to 2014. [Findings] For firms with a labor union, we find the significant stickiness in labor cost and anti－stickiness in office worker salaries. Specifically 1% decrease in sales results in 0.272% lesser decrease in labor salaries and 0.116% more decrease in office worker salaries. Such tendencies are stronger for firms with the labor union in the higher hierarchy. [Implication] In summary, a labor cost policy of Korean manufacturing firms is highly influenced by whether a labor union is present. This paper has a contribution of showing labor unions can influence human resource policy of the firm. We also manage to utilize employee benefit disclosure by nature of expense under IFRS.
