특허 인용 네트워크의 커뮤니티 분석을 통한 기술궤적 추적 -DRAM 기술의 사례-

이 연구의 목적은 기술궤적을 추적하기 위한 방법론으로서 특허 인용 네트워크의 커뮤니티 분석을 제시하고 이를 DRAM 특허에 적용하여 산업 주도권 이동을 설명하는 것이다. 모듈성 극대화 알고리즘을 통해 연도별 커뮤니티를 분류한 후 커뮤니티의 발생, 합병, 성장, 분리를 관찰함으로써 네트워크의 진화 과정을 정량적으로 분석할 수 있었다. 이 방법은 네트워크 전체의 진화 과정을 보여 줄 수 있다는 점, 네트워크 진화 과정을 정량적으로 분석할 수 있다는 점, 기술궤적의 집중도뿐 아니라 불확실성도 측정할 수 있다는 점에서 기존의 연구들과 차별화된다. DRAM 특허 인용 데이터를 분석한결과 개발도상국 기업의 신규진입과 다각화된 대기업으로의 주도권 이동을통합적으로 설명할 수 있었다. 기술궤적을 추적한 결과 1990년 이전까지는분절되어 있지만 비교적 안정적인 기술궤적을 볼 수 있었다. 1990년부터1994년까지는 커뮤니티의 분리와 합병이 많이 일어나서 기술적 불확실성이컸고 기술궤적의 집중도도 낮아져서 이 시기를 기술적 패러다임의 전환기라고 볼 수 있었다. 한국, 대만 기업들은 대부분 이 시기에 비중이 커진 커뮤니티에 많은 특허들을 가지고 있어서 기술적 패러다임 전환기가 신규 진입자에게 기회의 창이 되었을 것이라고 볼 수 있다. 1995년 이후로는 두 개의 커뮤니티만 남게 되었으며 기술적 불확실성이 낮아져 누적성이 큰 기술체제가형성되었다. 누적성이 높고 불확실성이 적은 기술체제는 다각화된 대기업에게 유리한 환경이었다고 볼 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This paper proposes a formal approach for analysing technological trajectories using community detection of patent citation data. We makes technological trajectory network by combining partitions of communities for all years, whereby birth, merging, splitting, growth of communities can be observed. The approach has the following advantages over existing methods using main-path analysis: (1) the evolution of whole networks can be shown (2) quantitative indicators can be applied (3) uncertainty of technological trajectories can be measured. We apply the method to analyse the DRAM patent citation network. The results show that the pre-1990 network is fragmented but stable. The early 1990s can be called the period of technological paradigm shift in that technological uncertainty is high and the network grew rapidly. The paradigm shift seems the window of opportunities to Korean and Taiwanese entrants. The technological regime of 1994-1997 was characterized by high cumulativeness and low uncertainty, which favors large diversified firms.
