CDM 사업이 개도국 기후기술 기업의 역량강화에 미치는 영향 연구 : 중국 기업사례를 중심으로

Utilizing the PATSTAT from the European Patent Office and the database of UNFCCC CDM projects from the Institute for Global Environment Strategies, this research aims to draw implications as to the effectiveness of the transfer of climate technologies from developed countries to developing countries through CDM projects under the Kyoto Protocol. According to CDM database from the IGES, 2,760 Chinese companies participated in 7,704 UNFCCC CDM projects in total. However, only 55 Chinese companies have the experience of applying for at least one patent. The number of patents held by these Chinese firms is 1,040, most of which were applied in Chinese mainland. Among 55 companies, only 26 companies have a total of 118 patents categorized under the IPC codes of the WIPO Green Inventory. By interpreting sub-categories of the WIPO Green Inventory, only 63 patents from 18 Chinese companies can be considered as technologies related to GHG mitigation technologies. After analyzing the starting date of CDM projects and the relatedness of patents by these Chinese companies, it is concluded that only eight companies applied for a patent related with their CDM projects. Therefore, it is argued that the effectiveness of CDM projects under the Kyoto Protocol in terms of technology transfer at a company level is very low considering the number of CDM projects carried out in China.
