Impact of community attachment on corporate social responsibility and resident support in gambling communities

Residents’ perception and support of gambling business in rural communities are important in determining the company’s sustained success. Due to its nature of being in the sinful industry, gambling operators have strived to implement well-designed mechanism to ensure the sustainability of gambling industry by sound business practices that promote accountability, information transparency, and corporate philanthropy. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) and responsible gambling practice (RGP) are two examples of such effort. The main purpose of the study was to examine the impacts of community attachment and RGP on CSR, which influence resident support of casino development in rural communities of South Korea. The overall results of the study indicate that residents’ strong community attachment and well-implemented CSR and RGP will elicit strong residents’ support of casino development in rural gambling communities. The theoretical and practical implications are then discussed.
