Chinese Approach Method to International Trade Lawfare Yun, Sung HyeKorean Chinese Relations Institute of Wonkwang University China has been sued through the WTO dispute settlement system since joining the WTO in 2001. This, however, was also the opportunity to be incorporated into international trade order in a relatively short time as well as to understand WTO system and the trade policy of WTO member states. Recently, China has also been actively using international trade laws to drive its own interests in the international relations. It clearly shows that how deeply China has studied international trade law and how confident it is in interpreting and appling it. China recognizes that it is an important tactic to secure normative legitimacy that is common to the international community in order to pursuing its own interest in international dispute. Thus, this paper outlines China’s policy on the lawfare as the way to pursuit of strategic aims. Next, it analyzes how China is strategically using the WTO rules in international trade lawfare. Finally, the paper analyzes and evaluates the characteristics of Chinese approach method to international trade lawfare. This study can provide implications for finding a way to resolve trade disputes with China.
