초록
이 연구는 M. C. Nussbaum의 교육 구상에 담긴 교육학적 의의를 드러내고 그 실현 과제를 분석한 연구다. 정치철학자이자 고전학자인 그녀의 교육 구상은 나름의 독특한 사회관 속에서 배태된 것으로 교육학적인 의미 탐색이필요하지만 아직 본격적인 관심을 받지 못한 상태에 있다. 이 연구는 Nussbaum의 교육 구상이 어떠한 맥락에서형성되었는지를 추적하는 가운데 그 의의를 드러내고 교육계에 던지는 시사점과 과제를 논의한다. 자신의 교육 구상을그녀는 종종 시민교육으로 칭했고 또 여러 저작에서 인문예술교육의 중요성을 강조한 바 있지만, 그녀의 구상이단지 협의적 시민교육이나 인문예술교육 강화를 주장하는 차원에 머물지 않음을 확인할 수 있었다. 오히려 그녀의교육 구상을 그 배경이 되는 사회철학적 맥락 속에서 포괄적으로 이해할 때, 그녀의 교육 구상이 국가가 책임지고모든 사람들에게 제공해야 할 ‘기초교육’에 관한 것임을 포착할 수 있었고, 공교육의 재구조화를 요구하는 목소리임을알 수 있었다. 그녀가 제안한 인간성 계발 패러다임에 기반한 기초교육으로의 전환 가능성을 탐색하고 관련된 몇가지 과제도 논의하였다. 이 연구를 계기로 향후 기초교육에 대한 논의가 본격화되어 공교육의 발전이 이루어지기를 기대한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to reveal the pedagogical meaning contained in M. C. Nussbaum's idea of education and to analyze some tasks for realizing it. As a political philosopher, she had a unique idea of education and her idea of it is rooted in her own unique view of society. But it has not been fully explained what pedagogical meaning her idea of education holds in detail. Only a few researchers in the field of education were interested in her idea of education. In this study, the researcher analyzes the pedagogical meaning of Nussbaum’s idea of education while reviewing its background, ‘capability approach’. In conclusion, the researcher was able to confirm that her idea of education could be meaningful at ‘fundamental/public education’ domain in which the state should take responsibility for and carry out and at ‘inclusive education’ domain, too. The researcher also argue that it should take lifelong educational planning to carry out her education in practice.
