An Exploratoiy Study on a Convention Partnership Model: A Case Study of Daegu in South Korea

While partnerships in many different business sectors have been conducted, research on partnerships in the convention industry has yet to be discussed comprehensively. An examination of the partnership between the convention center and the convention and visitors bureau is particularly important study fo r a country like South Korea in the planning stages of adding convention centers. The purpose of this study is to explore partnerships and determinants in order to construct a convention partnership model as well as proposing a framework fo r future empirical research. Deagu in South Korea serves as the study context as it has both a convention center and a convention bureau, and the bureau is the first and only incorporated body. The current profile of Daegu is analyzed based on partnership patterns as well as such determinants as strategic nature, complementarity of resources, reciprocity, communication, flexibility, and fairness.
