미술비평 교육을 위한 기술과 분석 지도법

초록
비평교육은 미술작품을 효과적으로 감상할 수 있도록 비평능력을 기르는 것을 목적으로 한다. 미국의 미술교육자 조지 게히건은 종래의 비평교육 방법을 비판하면서 이를 비평적 담론이라 부르고 그 대안으로 제시한 지도법에다 비평적 탐구라는 이름을 붙였다. 이러한 이분법은 비평적 탐구에서 담론 즉 기술적 분석을 소홀히 하는 결과를 초래한다. 노엘 캐럴은 비평의 중심이 이유에 근거한 평가이며, 기술, 분석, 해석 등의 비평적 작업들도 평가의 요소가 포함될 때 비평이 된다고 했다. 이러한 비평철학에 의거하여 미술비평 단계들을 순차적 절차가 아닌 단계별 완결성이라는 관점에서 교육적으로 적용할 수 있다. 내용 분석, 형식 분석, 의미 해석, 가치 판단으로 이루어지는 비평단계들은 초점과 수준을 달리하여 평가적 판단을 포함하는 비평수행 단위들이다. 본 연구는 에드먼드 펠드먼의 기술단계와 분석단계를 순환성에 비춰 수정하며, 작품의 의미와 가치를 내용과 형식이라는 측면에서 접근하는 기초 수준의 내재적 비평 활동을 제시한다.
Abstract
The practice of criticism education enables students to appreciate art works effectively by paying attention to the visual facts and analyzing them. G. Geahigan, who opposed the traditional teaching method of criticism education, called it critical discourse and proposed an alternative named critical inquiry. It is improper dichotomy, that fails to embrace discourse such as descriptive analysis in critical inquiry. Noël Carroll said that the primary function of criticism is evaluation grounded on reason, and critical operations such as description, analysis, and interpretation become criticism when evaluation is included. Based on his philosophy of criticism, it is possible to carry out each critical procedure with its own integrity. The units of critical performance, which consist of content analysis, formal analysis, semantic interpretation, and value judgment, are not sequential procedures, but rather critical practices that vary in focuses and levels. Considering recursive function of critical procedures, I have modified Feldman's stages of description and analysis into the basic level activities of intrinsic criticism, that treat meaning and value of a work of art in respect of its content and form.
