창작물 유통 플랫폼의 노동통제 방식에 관한 연구 : 유료 웹툰 플랫폼의 사례를 중심으로
A Study on Controlling Labor in Digital Contents Platform : Focusing on the Case of Webtoon Platforms in Korea

플랫폼 산업의 발달은 필연적으로 플랫폼을 매개로한 다양한 방식의 노동을 만들어 내게 되었고, 이 새로운 노동의 유형들은 근대 자본주의적 자본-노동의 관계를 변형시킨 새로운 형태의 고용/계약관계를 형성하게 되었다. 본 연구에서는 기존이 플랫폼 노동 연구에서 다루어지지 않았던 창작물 유통 플랫폼과 관련된 노동의 문제를 살펴보기 위해 유료 웹툰 플랫폼을 중점적으로 분석해 보고자 한다. 웹툰(Webtoon) 플랫폼의 사례는 플랫폼의 구조 및 운영방식을 통해 창작자들을 플랫폼에 종속시키고 그들의 창작물뿐만 아니라 그들의 노동까지 통제할 수 있다는 점을 매우 잘 보여주는 의미있는 사례라고 할 수 있다. 따라서 이 글에서는 웹툰 플랫폼 산업의 현황 및 성격을 분석해보고, 웹툰 플랫폼과 웹툰 작가들의 계약관행 및 수익분배 방식에서 나타나는 창작과정에 대한 플랫폼의 관리·통제의 양상을 살펴보는 것을 통해서 웹툰작가들의 노동자성을 규명해보고, 특히 작업과정에서 발견되어지는 노동통제의 새로운 방식을 분석해 보고자 한다.
Abstract
The development of the platform industry inevitably created various forms of labor involving the platform, and these new types of labor make a new form of employment/contract relationships transformed from the traditional capital-labor relationship. This study especially focuses on the webtoon platform in order to examine the labor problems related to the digital contents platform, which have not been covered by the previous platform labor research. The webtoon platform is a very good example to show how the structure and operation of the platform can make creators subordinate to the platform and control not only their contents of work but also their labor process. This article analyzes the current status and nature of the webtoon platform industry, and examines the work process of webtoon creators. Finally, this paper aims to find out a different way of controlling labor which is generated from the work process of webtoon creators.
