특허가치에 기반한 코스닥 기술지수 산출에 관한 연구

‘글로벌 초일류 기술주 시장’을 지향하는 코스닥시장은 최근 정책적 활성화 방안에도 불구하고코스닥시장이 갖는 구조적 취약점 등으로 인해 지속적 지수하락이 관찰되는 등 새로운 성장 동력이 보이지 않고 있다. 본 연구는 코스닥시장이 기술주 시장으로서의 위상 확립·강화를 위한 방안의 하나로, 특허 가치에 기반을 둔 기술지수인 코스텍150(Kostech150)의 개발 방안을 제시한다. 2014~2016년 동안 코스닥 전체 상장 기업들의 특허 전수조사를 통해 특허 가치를 평가하고, 가치가 높은 상위 150개 기업을 선정하여 시가총액을 바탕으로 코스텍150 지수를 산출한 후 타 지수와의 성과를 비교·분석하였다. 코스텍150은 변동성은 크지만 타 지수 대비 월등한 성장성을 보임으로써 기술주로서의 특성과 정체성을 상징한다. 코스텍150의 활용을 통해 개인 중심의 코스닥시장에서 외국인 및 기관 투자자들의 시장 참여를 확대하고, 코스텍150 편입 기업들에게는 기술주로서의 자부심을 부여함과 동시에 유가증권시장으로의 이전상장 유인을 줄이는 계기로 작용할 것을 기대한다.
Abstract
This study develops a method of constructing a technology index(Kostech150) based on technology valuation for KOSDAQ listed companies. Despite recent policy support, the KOSDAQ market, which aims to become a world-class high tech-heacy exchange, is showing no new growth engines due to the structural weakness of the KOSDAQ. As a tool of enforcing the status of high tech-heavy exchange, I construct the Kostech150 index based on market capitalization of top 150 high patent valued firms among the entire KOSDAQ listed companies using detailed patent information for the period of 2014-2016. As a result of comparing other well-known indices, I find that the Kostech150 shows high volatility, but also exhibits significantly higher returns than other indices, implying the possibility of serving as an index to represent the high tech-oriented exchange status. I expect the utilization of Kostech150 to have positive effects of not only increasing the participation of foreign and institutional investors to KOSDAQ market, but also decreasing the incentives of transfered listing from KOSDAQ to KOSPI.
